Stone sink has similar characters to common stone and since stone have porous which can be entered by fluids, the stone sink is has possibility become stained. The longer stain remains, it will penetrate the stone sink deeper and it is difficult to clean the stain and it will be permanent.
The basic maintenance for stone sinks is to remove the stain immediately when it is occurs. We can use wet cloth or soft brush with mild detergent to clean the stone sink. There are few types of stone sinks which has different treatment technique due to the sensitive stone materials. The first type is granite stone sink. This type is very durable and for routine cleaning we can use nylon brush with soap and rinse in circular motion. Routine cleaning will help to prevent the hard water deposit which can cause stain. To clean stains we can use non-abrasive cleaner and avoid strong alkalis such as ammonia.
The second type is marble sink. This type is a shiny stone and elegant finish. Sealing the stone helps maintain it from absorbing fluids. The acidic liquids such as orange juice, lemons, soft drink can cause spots on the surface that is why we can’t use acidic cleaners for the marble sink. To avoid water spots on the surface, please rinse the marble sink after each use and the only ways to clean the water spot is re-polish the marble sink.
